The Cooperative of Notaries of Quebec, also known as “the COOP,” was established in 2016 in response to Desjardins, which was seeking an innovative solution for its mortgage refinancing. American title insurance companies had already been working for over 30 years with other financial institutions to offer a similar service.
Faced with these giants, a single notary would have been powerless, but the idea of joining forces emerged: several notaries working together, in collaboration, to create a system that benefits both professionals and clients. This is how the Cooperative of Notaries of Quebec, a legal professionals’ cooperative, was born — a unique initiative!
After numerous discussions, Desjardins chose OPCO Notaires inc. and the COOP as the ideal solution, due to its alignment with its mission and cooperative values.
The collaborative strategy between OPCO Notaires inc. and the members of the COOP allows for lower-cost production, where notaries maintain their role as legal advisors.
